\"\"<\/a>The Mackinac Horsemen’s Association holds an annual Mackinac Island Festival of the Horse to celebrate the horse’s role on the island. In the past we have held lectures, workshops, pony rides, carriage parades, demonstrations, stable tours and the ever-popular Breed Show. Events take place at the Borough Lot beneath Grand Hotel. Proceeds from the festival support MHA projects. The 2016 Festival is TBD – tentative dates are<\/p>\n

MHA will not be hosting Festival of the Horse in 2016. Watch here for notices for 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n

• Mackinac Island Festival of the Horse \u2013 Part II (The Breed Show) 7\/27\/2010 (via Bree’s Mackinac Island Blog)<\/a><\/strong>
\nIn a copy of the Mackinac Horsemen\u2019s Association publication, \u201cMackinac Hoofbeats\u201d, Phil Porter (Director of the Mackinac Island Historic State Parks) talks about the importance of the horse on the island. He says, \u201cI don\u2019t think people always realize the full impact of the auto ban,\u201d referring to the 1898 prohibition of automobiles. \u201cBecause cars were banned so early, the island never changed to accommodate an automotive world.<\/p>\n
