Mackinaw Memorial Bridge Race – Mackinaw City – May 28, 2011

RUN THE MIGHTY MAC

Gear Up for an Active Summer with the 8th Annual Mackinaw Memorial Day Bridge Race! One of the only times of year that runners are allowed to run the Mackinac Bridge will be this year on May 28, 2011. Runners must register in advance and be able to run a minimum of 12 minutes per mile to race in the event.

STARTING TIME
May 28, 2011 at 6:00am the official race begins with staggered starts (based on transportation time).

CHECK-IN: Check-in and packet pick-up is at Mackinaw City Recreation Center (race headquarters) located at 507 W. Central Avenue in Mackinaw City on Friday May 27th from 6:00pm – 9:00pm and Saturday May 28th from 4:30am – 6:30am. Transportation from race headquarters to starting area is 5:00am – 7:00am.

LOCATION: The race will begin at Bridgeview Park at the North end of the bridge and will end at race headquarters in Mackinaw City. Transportation from Mackinaw City to the starting line is provided.

COURSE: The first half of the race is a steady incline with a slope of 5 degrees. The total length of the course is 5.6 miles. For more bridge statistics visit www.mackinacbridge.org

REGISTRATION: Event registration closes at midnight on May 25th. You may either send this registration form in with a check or money order or you may register online at www.mackinawcity.com. On site registration will be offered Friday, May 27th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm at race headquarters. There will be NO ONSITE REGISTRATION OFFERED ON THE DAY OF THE RACE (MAY 28th).

FACILITIES: There will be restrooms at the starting line of the event and at the finish line, but none are provided during the course. A water stop will be provided on the exit of the bridge. You may also carry your own water.

REFRESHMENTS: Breakfast and refreshments will be available at race headquarters starting at 6:30am until 8:30am.

ENTRY FEE: The entry fee is $40.00 per participant if postmarked by May 1st, 2011. Entry fees after May 1st are $45.00 and on-site registration will be $50.00. Entry includes: Race across the Mackinac Bridge, official race bib, race chip technology, official race t-shirt, commemorative medal, transportation to starting area, awards for division winners and HOT breakfast. Additional breakfast tickets can be purchased for $8.00 each.

Sunsets at Stonecliffe – Chris Brantley – July 24, 2012

The evening of July 24, 2012 features the CHRIS B ACOUSTIC SHOW from the Inn at Stonecliffe Portico.

Amazing views of the bridge and straits, excellent food and cocktails on the portico outside!

Music starts at 6pm and ends at 9pm….

Chris Brantley has earned a reputation as a true professional in his musicianship, his instruction, and his demeanor. He has performed and recorded with some of the top bands in Detroit, including Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Cathy Davis and The Soulsearchers, Barbara Payton, Revision, Laura Wilkie, Mark Reitenga, The Reefermen, Blackman and Arnold World Jazz Band, The Killer Flamingos, The Butler Twins, The James Cloyd Group, Curtis Sumpter Project, Nikki James and the Flamethrowers, Joy Sparks, and hosts two weekly open jam sessions featuring some of the best talent in the city. In addition to his busy performance schedule, Chris devotes a large amount of focus on his current job as the Director of Instructors at Axis Music Academy, where he recruits and trains teachers, develops lesson materials and curriculum guidelines, and weekly mentors 40 of his own students. SHEPLER’S MACKINAC ISLAND FERRY AND THE ISLAND BOOKSTORE ARE CO-HOSTS OF TWEET-UP & TEACH-IN ON MACKINAC ISLAND… As requested by Facebook fans and Twitter followers of Shepler’s and The Island Bookstore, the first annual tweet-up & teach-in will take place July 31 from 4 ~ 6:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time at the Lilac Tree Hotel conference room on Mackinac Island.

MackiTAC_2010 will feature Michigan guest speakers to discuss leading-edge aspects and strategies of social media. Keynoters will include: Jon Petersen, a certified eMarketer from Grand Rapids, Dan McDonough, 9-time world champion log roller from Mackinaw City, Lori Libka from Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth, Misty Martinchek, representing Shepler’s, Allan Coyle, social media aficionado from Lansing and Brenda Horton, author and photog of Bree’s Mackinac Island Blog.

MackiTAC_2010 will go worldwide. Participants who are unable to get to Mackinac Island will enjoy a live Twitter feed and real-time video. For those that are in attendance free wireless Internet will be available.
