January may be slow for the actual planting of container gardens, but let me tell you, we are so busy planning! We are ordering gorgeous flowers and plants for the upcoming spring planting season and researching new varieties to surprise and delight our clients.
Speaking of delights, we have been dreaming of going to the provenwinners Grand Garden Show at the grandhotelmichigan on Mackinac Island, Michigan for years and were planning to go this past summer. Sadly this bucket list item was postponed due to covid, but we are so excited for the day it will happen. We absolutely love garden tours and Mackinac Island in the summer looks dreamy. Day 2 of the garden tours in complete and we are exhausted and happy!
All of the gardens are so inspirational and I have a lot of ideas for next year where I will try to cram what I saw in beautiful yards into containers on my deck
It’s truly been a memorable experience and we hope to come back again soon, not just for the garden show but to enjoy more of the island as well!

08.27.2013. No cars are allowed on Mackinac Island, located on Lake Huron between mainland Michigan and the "Yooper" Peninsula of Michigan. The island is about 8 miles around, and most people get around on bicycle or horse carriage. Men follow behind the carriages, walking with scoopers and bags to pick up after the horses to keep the streets clean.
I happened to arrive on the island the last day of the yearly Grand Garden Show, where many of the homes around the island display their colorfully floral gardens for the people who travel to stay at the famous Grand Hotel where the show is hosted. It was great to see beautiful old homes and their beautifully groomed gardens.

Grand Garden Show attendees were some of the first to receive one of our brand new leafjoy H2O Mini hydroponic houseplants. See those cuties lined up on the shelf?
These are houseplants you can grow almost anywhere, with no need to worry about pets digging in the soil or nibbling the foliage. What a fun gift idea, too! They need just about an inch of water to live - simply replace the water every 1-2 months as needed. If it eventually outgrows the glass vessel, you can plant and grow it like a regular potted plant.

Just got back from the island celebrating 8 years of marriage! We had a great time — full of non-stop wandering I can’t wait to share all our adventures!! Starting with this one….
We, of course, always make a point of biking around the island (8.2 miles)… but this year we made a mistake it was drizzling and cold… about 62 degrees… and so, so windy… but we thought we’d be just fine biking! LOL So we grabbed a cup of coffee from our FAV (luckybean.mi) and headed off on our adventure!
About halfway around the island we were NOT okay and we were too far along to go back, so we kept pressing forward. Safe to say…. We had some STUNNING, unreal views of the beautifully foggy island…. Buuuut we’ll never bike the island against high winds and in the freezing cold rain again lesson learned

DO TELL! Do you have a strong opinion when it comes to food and drinks made in Michigan ? If so, play along on this little game of This or That?
I'll go first! Mackinac Island Fudge, paczki, and Detroit Style Pizza are no-brainers for me. I love them all and would hands down pick each one if forced to choose.
The drink decision is a hard one for me though, as I don't really like either of the choices. Sorry. Growing up, Vernors was the only pop my Grandma had at her house, and she always insisted on pouring me a glass when we visited. However, I was not a fan of ginger ale and it would take me quite long to drink it, which did not get any better the longer it sat and the warmer it got. We always had Faygo in our house growing up, but flavors such as red pop, grape or rock & rye did nothing for me. Today, if a Faygo diet-cola was in the mix, that would be my choice.
Shoutout to puremichigan from whom we "borrowed" this idea who played their game bracket-style in honor of March Madness.
