Chicago Yacht Club – Race to Mackinac – July 18 – 22, 2025
Sailors from 15 different U.S. states as well as Ontario, Switzerland, and as far off as Hong Kong, are preparing for the race of a lifetime – the 333 mile Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, presented by Wintrust.
The Mac, as it is affectionately known, kicks off Friday, July 18, 2025 (cruising division) and Saturday, July 19, 2025 (racing division) with 3,000 sailors competing in this world-class sporting event. Although The Mac remains primarily an amateur event, this race has a proven track record of attracting some of the finest sailing talent in the sport.
The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is the longest, annual freshwater sailing race in the world. It takes place on Lake Michigan.

Only took a few 2025 #CYCRTM photos while racing on Esprit. The highly competitive J105 fleet had 18 entries. Esprit took 5th place and was just a few minutes from the podium. I love that this long distance race always seems to bring on the thrill of match racing in the straits. Great time with the best crew on Lake Michigan. We had a little bit of everything this year- rain, sun, downwind, a lot of upwind, sunsets, moon rise, sunrises, Rice Krispies, rose water spritzes, and island fireworks! Luckily, very few flies. Had a blast in the race to Mackinac this year. Our team got line honours in our fleet (a big win for us!) with an elapsed time of 2 days, 8 hrs but unfortunately got corrected over and ended up in 5th place. Would have loved podium but happy with our performance all things considered. We had wonderful weather despite the bit of rain on Saturday and no flies this year! Post-race partying after six days of race committee duty for racetomackinac, and a tiny view of the minor chaos of docking 100+ boats at the island. Parties included a newly created brunch for first timers - both crew of new boat/skipper combos doing their inaugural race, and individual crew members doing their first Mac. Love the positive reinforcement for newbies. #cycrtm
