When it comes to movers and shakers in the bluegrass world, Full Cord is a super- group on the rise. After winning the prestigious 2022 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in Colorado, the Michigan-based group followed that with another much-coveted honor when the International Bluegrass Music Association named Full Cord its “Momentum Award Band of the Year.”
While mandolinist Brian Oberlin notes the band’s music “is new and fresh to the ears of seasoned bluegrass fans,” the bluegrass traditions in Full Cord have deep roots. The group’s members – Oberlin, guitarist Eric Langejans, bassist Todd Kirchner – boast decades of musical artistry, with experience in popular performing bands from Michigan to Oregon. The group brings along top players to fill in fiddle and banjo to round out that rich bluegrass tone. The band’s debut album on Nashville’s Dark Shadow Recording released in Nov. of 2023 and has maintained charting positions through spring of ’24. Full Cord’s songwriting has reached a new “tipping point,” Manager Katie Kirchner suggests, enhanced by the group’s vast repertoire and robust experience in numerous band projects over the years. And Oberlin insists the band is “just hitting its stride” – ready to follow in the footsteps of fellow Michigan bluegrass icons Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass as yet another star in the making.

I feel like a million bucks!! I went to runningfit_tcsouth today and got some new Brooks! I’m an Asics girl but they were so comfortable!! The kids went biking and I pegged in a 2.5 mile run. Running is something I used to do everyday but I let it slip away. I’m setting my goals on a fall half marathon. #beyou #bayshoremarathon #runner #pageant #runner #msmichigan #bikes #mom #maketime #fitfam #greatturtle #greatturtlerun #endorphins #sohappy

Another awesome race on #mackinacisland. It was carey86c and my second run on the island this year. After taking quite a break to nurse a hamstring injury, I was very pleased with the time I was able to put down. Naturally, carey86c finished ahead of me. One more run on the island this year to complete the tri-fecta. We will be back at the end of October for the #greatturtlerun

What an amazing day! The weather held out for the race... no rain until I was all finished. Probably the toughest course I've ever run, so I'm super happy with my time... I'll take a 14 minute pace when the race director starts with 'there's a really steep hill right at the beginning, but don't let it scare you, there are lots more after that one'. Such a beautiful course! Oh, and that medal! I'm in love with that medal ♡

Results from yesterday’s Great Turtle! A road washout meant shorter course but more hills. The “dangerous hill” sign is actually at the start of the race. Nothing like torched quads in the first half mile. Lol! So much fun. My favorite race. Great medals, cool swag (fleece blankets this year). And a beautiful course. If you’re ever in northern Michigan in the fall, put this race on your radar. #greatturtletrailrun #greatturtlerun #runmackinacisland #runhappy #runmichigan #michiganrunner #mackinacisland #fallrunning
I already did my long run for the week but it was so beautiful today I couldn’t pass up the first chance to enjoy highway 185 around the island. Nothing but the sound of the lake lapping the rocks on the shoreline the whole way around! Felt good most of the run and finished strong. #runmackinac #greatturtlerun #running #runhappy #islandrunner #riseandrun #getoutside #hikertrash #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity

Just finished my first half marathon. It was definitely not the easiest course (so many hills), but probably one of the most beautiful courses I'll ever run. #thegreatturtletrailrun #halfmarathon #mackinacisland #irun4lola
