Mackinac Island Turtle Trek – A lantern-lit ski and snowshoeing trek through some of Mackinac Island’s natural winter wonderland.
The trail begins at Greany Grove (corner of Arch Rock Road and Huron Road) with a bonfire and hot chocolate. The trail is groomed, track set, lit by lanterns and approximately two miles long.

The 2014 Mackinac Island Lilac Festival starts on Friday, June 6, and goes through June 15. Some early lilacs are blooming, but look for the majority to blossom starting next week. In the meantime, here’s a view of some of the early summer flowers adding their color and beauty to June on Mackinac Island.

January may be slow for the actual planting of container gardens, but let me tell you, we are so busy planning! We are ordering gorgeous flowers and plants for the upcoming spring planting season and researching new varieties to surprise and delight our clients.
Speaking of delights, we have been dreaming of going to the provenwinners Grand Garden Show at the grandhotelmichigan on Mackinac Island, Michigan for years and were planning to go this past summer. Sadly this bucket list item was postponed due to covid, but we are so excited for the day it will happen. We absolutely love garden tours and Mackinac Island in the summer looks dreamy. Pre-show festivities begin this Saturday evening with a cocktail party in the gardens, followed by a Sunday afternoon cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Nathan Lyon. Sunday evening, we'll welcome all Grand Hotel guest for our opening reception in the gardens followed by a memorable dining experience in the Main Dining Room.
Monday and Tuesday, you'll enjoy a mix of inspirational garden tours and speaker sessions. In the mornings, you'll hear from Laura of gardenanswer, Jenny of creeksidenursery, Paul Zammit and other dynamic speakers. The afternoons will be filled with garden tours at some of the most magnificent homes on Mackinac Island, all designed and tended by Jack Barnwell and his skilled team at jackbarnwelldesign. You'll leave incredibly inspired and motivated to garden!
Mackinac Island is one of the most unique, enchanting vacation spots in America. You'll step back in time when you step off the ferry that delivers you to this magical place. No motor vehicles fill the streets of Mackinac. Instead, you'll hop on a bike or up onto a carriage drawn by fine horses and make your way up the hill to the Grand Hotel for the Grand Garden Show. From the porch, you'll glimpse the magnificent Mackinac Bridge--the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world--which crosses the sparkling Straits of Mackinac. All the cares in the world seem to evaporate when you are in this enchanting place.

08.27.2013. No cars are allowed on Mackinac Island, located on Lake Huron between mainland Michigan and the "Yooper" Peninsula of Michigan. The island is about 8 miles around, and most people get around on bicycle or horse carriage. Men follow behind the carriages, walking with scoopers and bags to pick up after the horses to keep the streets clean.
I happened to arrive on the island the last day of the yearly Grand Garden Show, where many of the homes around the island display their colorfully floral gardens for the people who travel to stay at the famous Grand Hotel where the show is hosted. It was great to see beautiful old homes and their beautifully groomed gardens.

I went to Mackinac island for a week and all I got was COVID!
Wanted to remember this easy and great steak mayo fresh corn salad meal from #idreamofdinnersoyoudonthaveto
Cook book that we love. It's great bc even when you are on an island you can find the ingredients. Okay the corn was brought up from my dad 😂. We just love dining al fresca on the island and next year we hope to stay for a big chunk of time if my parents will let us. This trip was for the #grandgardenshow and I'm glad we got to visit some new to me gardens.
Love the night views from the bluff, and glad we had amazing weather!! Nice to just take it slow and hang out on the porch with family and friends.
The day we left I woke up with a sore throat and I slept very poorly that night. I assumed I was snoring and stressing about getting ready in the morning so did dishes, packed, made coffee and did a 6 hour car ride with no mask. The next morning I woke up and knew this was no "summer cold" and I tested positive almost instantly. Ive definitely felt worse; tonsillitis, kidney stones, and some flus but I felt bad infecting my family and who knows how many others on the ferry ride.
I of course keep thinking about all that would have put me at risk and I guess I got it at an outdoor cocktail party when I was in the food or drink line since the rest of the trip I was with my people AND friggin outside on a windy island!
PS we're all fine now!
