Had almost an hour to kill before my carriage ride so wandered down the main street and took a few pics of the idyllic buildings – it really was magical and while I’m glad I did the express visit; I definitely want to come back again someday and stay for a couple/three days. There’s just something about coming back to Mackinac Island with the family. It’s become one of those traditions we look forward to every year, and somehow every trip creates a whole new collection of memories.
Biking around the island, playing cornhole at the Stonecliff Inn (amazing grounds), and making the trek up all those steps to Arch Rock with Bill. Swimming at the Island House with Will and Bill, laughing, relaxing, and enjoying the island at a slower pace.
And of course, no family trip is complete without finding a new show to binge once we finally make it back to the room.
The bikes, the steps, the swimming, the laughs, the traditions… these are the days we’ll look back on someday and wish we could do all over again.
Mackinac Island never gets old.

Jack's is a family operated stable offering hourly drive yourself horse and buggy rentals. Staff provide a short driving lesson and a map with approved routes before you head out to explore the interior and state park trails.

The Jewel is comprised of the Grand nine, across the street from the hotel; and the Woods nine, set in the interior of Mackinac Island. The Jewel features scenic beauty, lush landscaping and meticulously manicured tees, fairways and greens.
The Grand nine was built in 1901 and redesigned in 1987. The Woods nine, added in 1994, was designed by golf course architect Jerry Matthews. Transportation between the Grand nine and Woods nine is by specially designed horse-drawn carriage. Clubs are available for rental. Golf carts and pull carts are available.
