Our second stop on the Great Lakes cruise is to one of my absolute favorite places in the world...the last time I was in Mackinac Island, I was about seven years old and lost my binoculars. Now, I'm suppressing the urge to Google housing prices in this car-free place.
It was celebrating its Lilac Festival the day we were there, and we enjoyed walking around the island to the Grand Hotel and Mission Point, sipped on some lilac lemonade, and just generally enjoyed ourselves - we got so lucky with the weather, too!

Zoo De Mack ride in the books! Something I've been wanting to do since 2008 is finally checked off. 51 miles of what was some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever biked and the state has to offer. Starting in Harbor springs and riding the coast line to Mackinaw City was simply euphoric for me. The first 15 miles were all hills (which made me question my idea of doing it and fun), but the remainder of the ride was through trees along Lake Michigan and sand dunes. The feeling of finishing was surreal and a little emotional. I'm thankful the weather held up and the sun was shining. I can't thank the guys at rollmodelsracing enough for having my bike fixed and coming in clutch 10 days before the ride (seriously if you want to get into biking please go see them). Also thank you to everyone who messaged me the morning of and during it to make sure I was still alive .

The Jewel is comprised of the Grand nine, across the street from the hotel; and the Woods nine, set in the interior of Mackinac Island. The Jewel features scenic beauty, lush landscaping and meticulously manicured tees, fairways and greens.
The Grand nine was built in 1901 and redesigned in 1987. The Woods nine, added in 1994, was designed by golf course architect Jerry Matthews. Transportation between the Grand nine and Woods nine is by specially designed horse-drawn carriage. Clubs are available for rental. Golf carts and pull carts are available.
