Celebrate the annual island-wide Mackinac Island Lilac Festival at Mission Point – the perfect home base to experience the events going on each day during the Lilac Festival! 50 miles is a long time to just keep your legs moving, so for me it helped if my mouth was moving also....and here's some of what came from that.
I was grateful that even though we started with this larger group, I got to ride most of the ride with my cousin.
It was drizzling when we started but it turned into quite a downpour by mile 10. Heading downhill being pelted by cold rain wasn’t exactly the “weekend away” I had envisioned.
But we kept talking about random things, one of which was FUN.
He laughed at my “fun audit” I did on myself (I admit that could be an oxymoron, but not for this logical and rational analyzer!).
See, we often mistake FUN as an activity, when it’s really an emotional state.
It’s a feeling that happens when you have the magic combination of Connection, Flow, and Playfulness (from the amazing Catherine Price - I have indeed read her entire 300 page book on FUN). 😄
And I realized that even through the rain, this hit many of my personal fun factors: physical activity, 2-way conversation, a challenge, some introspection about life in general, and nature / outdoors.
So by the time we got to the half-way stop, the sun had come out, we ate lunch overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan, and decided to carry on to finish the ride.
And…it was...FUN.
I encourage you to find (which usually means plan) some fun this summer.
Think about the elements that you usually find in the “fun times” you have, and make it a point to put yourself into those circumstances more often.
