💪 Today I completed a running goal that has been on my list for many years: The Mackinac Island Trio! 🪻Lilac Run 10K 🌊 Mackinac 8-Miler 🐢 Great Turtle Trail Run (5.7 miles) I spent a lot of time on the island this year, and it has been so fun and so meaningful. 🌸 I have done the 8-miler in the past and it’s a pretty easy and flat race. Lilac Run and Great Turtle were firsts for me and both had some serious climbing involved. 😵‍💫 Today was really challenging mentally. It was the most crowded race and super hilly, so it was hard to get into that blissful race flow. I also just had life on my mind. However, I’m glad I did it because I surprised myself. I have done a LOT of challenging races this year. A 6-hour trail run, a hilly half…and I have found that I don’t care about time but rather the mental challenge of it all. Closing out a great family weekend on Mackinac Island! Growing up my dad ran the series of running races on the island every year and we would trek up as a family with our good friends the Cunningham’s and Gemmell’s - ten kids and three couples gallivanting around the island and cheering on our dads when they finished the race. This year we ran as a family, it was a beautiful day! Today also marked four months post stem cell transplant for my dad! I’m so proud of his strength and determination. Half marathon ✅off of my bucket list thanks to these crazy PA school friends who love running (like how!?!) And our friend Jeannette along with spectators who cheered us on on a cold rainy windy day 🌧💨🌊 you’d think after a half you feel so achieved, but the reality is that my body ached so bad, my body was freezing cold and I barely could walk or smile for a medal picture 😂 Mackinac Island🏝 you were gorgeous. I hope I can return when it’s warm and sunny ☀️ and without the 🏃🏽‍♀️part. As much as I appreciated the nature, oh man how brutal you are Lake Michigan. You were so windy and I thought I’d give up the last 3 mi, and as beautiful as you are I think I hated you at the end💔 Although my joints hurt, muscles are sore, l still don’t like running, and I’m so ready to retire from my short lasting running career, I’d like to run a flat race so I can run faster.
